How To Expertly Build a Good Skin Care Routine

New skincare enthusiast are generally believed to prefer minimalist skin care methods - put a bar of soap in the shower and you're done. Unfortunately, this method is not always the best. In fact, it can seriously damage your complexion due to dryness and encourage breakouts, when in fact you haven't taken any steps to prevent the first signs of aging. The good news is that it is relatively easy to develop a skincare routine. Like a healthy diet, the important thing is to be consistent. Using cleansers and moisturizers can make your skin glow look better, calmer, and feel more comfortable.

Figure out your skin type

Know what you work with

Your skin is unique, so what you put on it should be adapted to its uniqueness (your skin type). Finding the right skin care products and knowing how to use them begins with knowing what your skin needs. Your skin’s needs can change from season to season. Understanding how your skin behaves in its natural state right now will help you choose the products to keep it healthy now and long into the future.
Skin type test & explanation
You may just use soap on your face every morning in the shower and say it's okay, or you may just splash it with water. In either case, you can take more steps to keep your skin clean. Your skin is exposed to dirt and pollutants every day. Every night your pillowcase all of the nastiness and distribute it around your face. In other words, your face must be cleaned every day. About twice a day for most skin types. The type of soap you use in the shower, is usually too irritating for the most skin on your face. Even if your skin is tough and insensitive, this cheap soap will not bring you any benefits. If your skin type is anything but dry, you will want to wash your face twice a day. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends cleansers labeled oil-free and non-comedogenic (not pore blocking agents). They also recommend that your cleanser contain salicylic acid to combat existing pimples and prevent future breakouts. If you are not fighting severe acne, you most likely does not need a harsh cleanser and should use a super gentle formulation, that will not strip your skin of its natural oil that protect your skin. Added hydrating elements will help you feeling fresh and glowing right outside of the shower. Also, to prevent it from drying out further, be sure to use warm water instead of hot water.

Dead skin don't leave space for new skin

Exfoliating is the process of removing dead skin cells from the surface of the skin using chemicals or mechanical technics. Your skin naturally sheds dead skin cells every 30 days or so to make room for new cells. Sometimes dead cells are not completely removed. This can cause dryness, flaky patches and clogged pores. Exfoliating can help prevent this. Mechanical exfoliant, like scrubs are way to harsh on your face and should be used from the nipple down.
Chemical exfoliant are preferred and go into 4 categories :
- AHA (glycolic acid, lactic acid) will help with hyperpigmentation, pores, fine lines and wrinkles and even the skin tone
- BHA (salicylic acid) dry out access oil and are useful for blackhead and whitehead
- PHA (lactobionic acid) is a gentler version of the AHA
- Retinoid (Retinol, Retin A, Tretinoin) will sooth sun-damage, minimize signs of aging, and treat acne, as well as protecting your skin from free radical and promote collagen production
Exfoliation should be limited to twice weekly.
Serums are a powerful ally of any advanced skincare routine. These elixirs contain concentrated doses of active ingredients that can relieve many problems, from dark spots to wrinkles.
